I love markets days in Eumundi, but I have discovered that I also like non-markets days, especially when it comes to lunching. The Fig Tree is right amongst it all so I can imagine market days would be quite frenetic, but on this day, basking in that little bit of sunlight that shone onto the back veranda of this iconic location, relaxation was the word for the day.

Located on Memorial Drive, the seating sprawls out to the lane way at the back, where on market days, this is where it is all happening; I couldn’t even hope to get these seats on a market day!

The Fig Tree serves breakfast so they have a fairly traditional breakfast menu as well as a nice selection of lunch dishes. There seemed to be a little bit of a localised theme to the menu, which I always enjoy seeing. I spotted a tempeh dish on the menu, and was very tempted… knowing that it had my favourite tempeh which is made by local producers Mighty Bean – it was great to see it on the menu. They also had a few great sounding burgers on the menu, in a collection of mouth-watering combinations.

Scallops were amazing. Loved the combination of edamame, black sesame seeds and wasabi mayo. Just what I was after.

My cherry babe went with the battered fresh Queensland and bad boy beer battered fries served with house made chunky tartare sauce and tomato relish. No complaining there, and from an observer, it looked pretty good too… really want to sneak a chip…

While we were almost tempted to stay on for another coffee and cake, it seemed too nice a day to spend the entire afternoon inside eating, and although that has never stopped me before, we decided to have a short little wander through the rest of Eumundi and enjoy this little town in its peaceful non-market day glory.
