A special occasion always has a certain expectation. These expectations are usually our own, but just the same, it can be a lot of pressure finding not only the perfect outfit but also the perfect shoes!
First and foremost, the shoes need to look good. They need to match your outfit, and while I try to put as little thought as possible to the comfort aspect, truly, if you are on your feet, it can be a long day/night if the shoes are not comfortable.
I looked and I looked… I found many that fit the comfortable criteria (urgh!), and a couple that fit the look good criteria, but I had trouble finding the perfect fit for all three of my criterion.
Then I discovered K.Jaques… problem solved. I could design my own.
There is always an element of risk involved when designing a pair of shoes online. I mean how many times have you found the ‘perfect’ pair of shoes, only to try them on to find that they don’t really don’t look that good on, or worse still, they are uncomfortable. Having said that, usually if they are uncomfortable and they look good, I usually end up buying them anyway… who cares about comfort? Turns out I do, because in every instance where this has happened, I usually never end up wearing them, or if I do, then it is only the once. It is a lesson I have had much difficulty learning.
And then there is the question of design skills. Do I have what it takes to design a pair of shoes that I think look good and actually do?

So in a great leap of faith, I hopped onto the K.Jacques website and designed my perfect shoe. It was a blue and brown strappy creation with a cork platform and straps that wrap around the ankle.
On my screen they looked perfect 🙂
There is back up in that K.Jacques does have a ‘design approval’ process, so I would like to think this is back up in the instance that your perfect design could be the perfect disaster.
Fortunately my design was approved.
I was surprised at how quickly they arrived – all the way from France, and I was pretty excited when I opened up the box.
My special occasion was a day at the races. So come race day, on they went. Perfect match to my outfit. At one stage I doubted the style – I was reconsidering the cork platform, but when I tried them on the most amazing thing happened… they were really (and I mean really)comfortable.
So comfortable in fact, that I was genuinely surprised *gasp*. So comfortable that probably for the first time in my life, you could barely get me out of them. I was going up and down stairs, through gullies in the car park (it was a long walk), doing laps of the racetrack, back and forth to the TAB to place my bets… to the bins to throw away my lost bets. These shoes were so comfortable, they were almost like wearing runners – well I did say almost.
So while my race day bets did not pay off, my shoe choice most certainly did.
Visit K.Jacques and have a play. They have lots of design styles from casual right through to what could be a race day creation. It is a lot of fun, and really easy – and I can vouch for the comfort. These are dividends that will pay off.
It is an easy to use interface – pick your shoe style:
