There are lots of great food tours on the Sunshine Coast, all of them offering something unique, but I don’t know that there is anything quite as unique as Live It Tour’s Camels and Canapés Experience.
I recently joined Live It Tours on their most recent tour to do some behind the scenes photography when The Great South East crew came to visit, and it was such a fabulous day.
I often go to many fabulous farms, and QCamel is one of my favourites, but like so many of these awesome places, they are not always open to the public. So while I can tell you about the fabulous producers and the fabulous products they produce, most of you will be unlikely to ever experience these farms in the way I do. At least that was until now…
Maggie Shalhoub is the passionate heart behind Live It Tours. Food is her passion, and the Sunshine Coast follows close behind, so combining the two was a bit of a no-brainer.
So I tagged along on tour enjoying the antics of The Great South East crew, starting at Glasshouse Gourmet Snails.
When you say you are visiting a snail farm, it always raises a few eyebrows. It is not the sort of ‘farm’ you would expect to find on the Sunshine Coast, but the farm supplies gourmet snails to restaurants Australia-wide, and Mary and Clint are such a beautiful couple, you will almost become as enthralled as them in these quirky little creatures. I know this as fact… after my first visit, I nurtured quite the snail obsession that you can read about here.

Morning tea’s star performer is Mary’s passionfruit cheesecake – no snails – but it is sensational. The snails come a bit later in the form of some tasty morsels on mushrooms and then a visit to the aviary.
Next it is off to QCamel. I can’t begin to emphasise how much I love this place (read previous story here). Camels are the most beautiful creatures, and all of QCamel’s camels are named and pampered, and you will definitely get up close and personal. Maxy is a natural photobomber so you will get plenty of photos and we were all endlessly entertained as he tried to get in on the action while Alistair Macleod tried his hardest to maintain serious conversation, well, as much as Alistair does. They are incredibly affectionate creatures.

The afternoon was topped off with some fabulous canapés, inspired the Middle East, where camel milk takes its origin and was used in the creation of. The canapés were sensational and the bubbly flowed freely – the makings of a fun and entertaining afternoon, all the while receiving some wonderful camel cuddles.
Check out Live it Tours website for upcoming tour dates – this is one tour you will definitely want to do, whether you are local or just visiting the area, and Live it Tours is the only way to do it.

Have fun and say ‘Hi’ to Maxy for me!
