There is nothing like a fantastic lunch to set the theme for what is set to be another great Real Food Festival.

Launching the Official Program for this year’s event, festival director Julie Shelton, and Cameron Matthews, The Long Apron’s chef at Spicers Clovelly Montville Estate hosted a sumptuous lunch showcasing the incredibly diverse produce that is grown and produced on the Sunshine Coast.

The Real Food Festival, also celebrating the incredibly diverse produce grown and produced on the Sunshine Coast, will be held over the weekend of 7-8th September (yes, same weekend as the Federal election) at the Maleny Showgrounds and if the program is anything to go by, this year is going to be nothing short of amazing.

Hop online to view the program and start to plan out your weekend, and trust me, you are going to have to go both days to fit it all in.

But before you do… read and weep… this was the culinary masterpiece that was created for attendees to enjoy.

And it goes like this…

Garden salad, a nod to indigenous cuisine which had some sixteen components; beetroot butter, beetroot sourdough, mushroom bread, mushroom caramel (yep caramel) radicchio, whey braised heirloom carrot, carrot puree, fried seaweed, birch leaf, birch leaf cracker, fried vine leaf, crispy pickled onions, powdered vinegar, olive herb and parsnip chips… served in a pocket of paperback – extraordinary!

Beautifully succulent smoked Kidaman beef accompanied by Obi Obi cedar potatoes, representing the amazing soil of the ranges.

realfood5

Sugar cane and chicken skewers with West End Kingaroy peanut and Hunchy pineapple caramel showing off the diversity of the Sunshine Coast.

And then a delicious salad of the award winning Cedar Street Haloumi, zucchini and mint. Cameron has been kind enough to share the recipe… click here.

When discussing the menu with Cameron, Julie joked that she would like a volcano as a dessert.  Cameron takes his desserts quite seriously, so a ‘volcano’ it was – Maleny Dairies yoghurt ice cream with an eruption of strawberry jam and a wonderful black berry sorbet (as in raspberry sorbet with vegetable carbon to make it black – nothing is ever as it seems in The Long Apron kitchen) and scattered with rose petals from the Spicer’s Clovelly garden – magic.

Yes, a definite celebration of regional food at its best.
